- Jimmy grew up in California and learned the
- game from his mother, Gloria, who was a
- tennis instructor. Later, Jimmy was coached
- by Pancho Segura, a great player in the
- 1940ΓÇÖs and 1950ΓÇÖs.

- In 1970, Jimmy entered the University of
- California at Los Angeles (UCLA), and in
- 1971, he won the NCAA menΓÇÖs singles
- title. Jimmy turned pro in 1972.
